A free weekend

It’s nearly the weekend and I have the weekend off! No work! Well, apart from maybe having to paint the bedroom. Oh, deep joy! Anyway, I plan on picking up some timber too. My stocks of lime, sycamore and oak are running low – that’s not work, honest…
For both carving and turning purposes I have been running my stocks low for a while, but it is now time to do something about it, so have ordered some from a few sources. I will let you know if I find any goodies. Whenever I go on the hunt for timber I always end up grubbing about to find the ‘special’ bits. I just love working with wood and when I find a wonderful looking piece, I very quickly work out what I can do with it. The crunch usually centres on the question of whether I can afford it. Oh, the regrets I have about not having enough money and having to walk away from some of the most gloriously figured timber I have found. Sad, isn’t it.
I know such pieces of wood are more likely to be used for other woodworking disciplines – heavy figuring is not usually desirable for carving – but even so, timber has a natural beauty that is hard to walk away from if you have the woodworking bug. Let’s face it, wood is the primary material we have chosen to work with and it should come as no surprise that I am as excited about grubbing about and searching for that special piece of wood, as I am about going out for a meal.
Let me know what you are up to and I will let you know what I end up with timber-wise in due course.
Have a nice weekend.
