WOW wasn"t Westonbirt"s Festival of the Tree great this year? I seriously hope that many of you were able to go to this glorious event dedicated to the tree and its glorious art, whether it be carving, turning, chainsaw sculpture, wooden jewellery, outdoor projects, forestry, conservation... oh far too many things to mention. And yes I know the weather wasn"t that great but that didn"t stop the attendees having fun and staying put throughout the day/s.
What I really loved the most was seeing the look of wonderment and delight on the faces of those who stumbled accidentally into the woodcarving tent to be confronted with so much superb pieces from clubs up and down the UK. A lot of them commented on how they didn"t realise you could quite do that with wood!
As ever, the Westonbirt Trophy, judged by the visiting public, was popular, with a giraffe standing head and shoulders (literally) above the rest as it walked off with first place prize.
I spent 3 days there and would have stayed the whole week if I could but the next issue of Woodcarving won"t get done on its own, so I did come back to crack on with things.
Well, I"m off to have a nice weekend. Hopefully not too much DIY but you never know – there is a wet room now begging to be tiled now that the livingroom is more or less done, the exception being the floor, but boy! What a difference already the rest of the decorating of that room has made.
Have fun, do some carving and see you next week!
