Welcome to our new regular feature
In order to add a new area of interest to the forums and to encourage interaction between the different forum sections, the forum members are introducing this 'Members' Choice' thread to act as a showcase for a piece of work chosen by a member each week as their 'piece of the week'.
This week's members' choice is 'Spalted Hornbeam' by Dalboy, which was chosen by Nick Simpson. Here's what Nick had to say about the piece: "This bowl has everything you could ask for. Derek has produced a classic shape, with an inward sloping rim, which is just undercut enough to produce a shadow. The foot is well finished with enough height to lift the bowl off the table and enhance the shape of the form. The beautiful figure is nicely accentuated by the turning and finish. It will be interesting to see how much the rim moves at either end over the pith during the next few weeks. It was a refreshing delight to see your bowl, Derek. In my opinion, this gallery has recently been turning - excuse the pun - towards cake decoration - a talent I much admire -but it's not woodwork. I like to see photos of a turned item from all angles, including the insides of bowls, hollow forms and the foot. Your post does all of that. This is a bowl that all of us, novice and expert alike, should try to emulate. It is a bowl that passes the ultimate test with A* - you just want to pick it up and hold it."
Congratulations again to Dalboy and we will bring you another chosen piece next week. In the meantime, you can find out more about the piece by clicking here.
