Buckinghamshire New University is looking forward to showcasing the work of its graduating designers and artists at its Bucks EYeS show from 7-13 June - and this year is also holding a special family event for young people.
The annual end-of-year art and design show at the University, at its Campus in Queen Alexandra Road, High Wycombe, will feature an eye-catching variety of student work from courses ranging from Advertising; Animation; Design and Media; Fine Art; Foundation Studies in Art; Furniture; Graphic Arts; Metalwork and Jewellery; Product Design; Silversmithing; Spatial Design; and Textiles and Surface Design.
The exhibition, which also includes work by master's students studying Art & Design Practice, coincides with the initiative, Bucks Open Studios, which involves more than 500 artists and makers displaying their art work in 150 different venues across Buckinghamshire from 8-23 June.
The family event at Bucks New University takes place on Tuesday 11 June from 5.30pm to 7pm, with students from schools in years 10 and 11 invited along to see Bucks EYeS, speak to lecturers and teachers, and also take a look at the University's state-of-the-art media studios and meet students studying Audio and Music Production and Film and TV Production.
Graduates who have set up a company called Furniture Magpies, collecting original items of furniture and re-designing them with a contemporary feel, will also be displaying their work.
Additionally, students studying BA (Hons) Furniture: Conservation, Restoration and Decorative Arts, under an initiative called Bucks Conservation, set up by the University, will be among those exhibiting.
On Wednesday 12 June at 6pm, Charles Vernon, Master of the Furniture Makers Company and Group Managing Director of Gloster Furniture, will be speaking at the latest in Bucks New University's free public lecture series. He will give a talk entitled 'The furniture industry: from the flames to the future', with attendees treated to a tour of the Bucks EYeS show afterwards.
Third-year BA (Hons) Furniture: Design and Craft student, David Marsden, will display pieces such as a sideboard made of upcycled material including pallets and crash mats.
Bucks EYeS attracts a variety of industry professionals and organisations to its preview and private view, on Friday 7 June, and is then open to the public from Saturday 8 June.
Bucks EYeS is open from 10am-3pm on Saturday 8 June and Sunday 9 June; 10am-4pm on Monday 10 June, Wednesday 12 June, and Thursday 13 June; and from 10am-7pm on Tuesday 11 June.
Student work will also be exhibited at New Designers, at the Business Design Centre, in Islington, London, between 26-29 June and 2-4 July; at D&AD New Blood at The Old Truman Brewery, in Brick Lane, London, from 2-4 July; and at the Indigo exhibition in Paris between 17-19 September.
