Having said farewell to Strictly Woodturning last autumn, keen woodturners will be delighted to know that Axminster Tool Centre is organising a new woodturning competition as a joint venture with the New Forest Trust.
The competition is open to all woodturners and selected entries will be placed on display in the New Forest Trust's marquee at the New Forest & Hampshire County Show from 30 July to 1 August, 2013.
One of the key elements of the competition is that all pieces of work must be turned from wood that is grown in and entirely native to the UK; ideally the wood would be sourced from the New Forest.
Prizes for the competition will be in the form of Axminster gift cards:
First Prize: £,1000
Second Prize: £400
Third Prize: certificate only
People's Choice: £500
The top three places will be chosen by a panel of judges - Colwin Way and Trevor Yates (both of ATC) and well known professional woodturner Les Thorne. The judges will make their decision the day before the show on Monday 29 July. The People's Choice will be decided differently and be awarded according to votes cast by visitors to the exhibition.
Axminster will be at the exhibition where visitors will be able to watch woodturning, chair making techniques and hand tool demonstrations from skilled Axminster staff.
Full details about how to enter the competition and other essential information are now available by clicking here.
Anyone wishing to enter can download and print an entry form or enter online. Entry forms need to be received by 31 May and pieces of work submitted by 1 July 2013.
