Book Review – Small Wood Projects by Hobbies magazine

This charming facsimile collection of 'splendid projects for industrious chaps' brings back into print a host of old articles originally published in the popular Hobbies magazines between 1920 and 1964. Intended for reading pleasure rather than for practical use, this 190-page hardback is packed with humorous nostalgia, with projects including novel items such as cigarette servers, an elaborate mechanical dustbin opener and a classic tumbling clown-and-ladder toy, as well as more practical items of furniture and home improvement advice. With all the original illustrations, adverts and text, this is a smirk-inducing relic of an innocent time gone by.
