Woodturners from around the world will assemble in San Jose from June 8-10 this year for the 26th annual symposium of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW), where dozens of renowned artisans will demonstrate the latest techniques in one of the world’s oldest crafts – woodturning.
"Our international symposium annually attracts more than 1,500 individual woodturners, plus their families, for an exhibition of the work of our most talented and creative members – both amateurs and professionals," says AAW Operations Director Phil McDonald. 'We are delighted to bring this event to beautiful San Jose."
The three-day symposium will be held in the McEnery Convention Center, a state-of-the-art convention facility with over 15 meeting rooms, a 22,000 sq. ft. grand ballroom, and nearly 143,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space. While registration is required to attend demonstrations, the general public may view the trade show and four gallery exhibitions free of charge.
The AAW, headquartered in Saint Paul, is one of the fastest-growing craft organisations in the world, comprising 14,500 members in the United States, Canada, England, Australia, Japan, and other countries. Woodturners from the US and abroad will see modern craftsmen and women in detailed and interactive demonstrations, showcasing a pursuit that goes back 4,000 years in human history - using craft's most organic material: wood.
Since 1986, the AAW has been the premiere advocate for the ancient craft of woodturning.
Members look to the organisation for education, support, and promotion of an activity that has seen phenomenal growth over the last quarter century - by both part-time hobbyists and studio professionals.
