The finalists for the NICHE Awards 2012 have just been announced. Amongst those turners chosen as finalists within the Turned Wood Category is the work of John Beaver, who will be appear as our 'Featured Artist' within Woodturning magazine, issue 236. John is very pleased that two of his pieces have been chosen.
Sponsored by NICHE magazine, the NICHE Awards programme began in 1989 to celebrate excellence and innovation in American and Canadian fine craft. Artists are recognised in professional and student divisions.
The NICHE Awards competition is open to professional craft artists over the age of 21 who reside in America or Canada and are actively involved in the design and production of craftwork supplied to galleries and/or craft shops.
Amongst those other turners shortlisted are Pat Matranga, with his 'Gaga Shoe-Pot'; Thomas Irven with his '4 Acorn Box'; John Paul Goodyear with a piece entitled 'An Imtimate Enounter', and John Beaver with his holly and ebony '3 Wave Bowl' and his 'Cocobolo Open Wave Bowl'.
