It"s that time of year again, the one we euphemistically refer to as "Show Time" around here, as the woodworking team prepares for their annual soiree at the seaside, or to give it it’s proper title the "PR Industrial Tool Show". Held at the American Express Community Stadium in Brighton, the venue is the home ground for local League Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion. The show will have live demos and a few good deals I’m sure if you can make it down over the weekend.
The minute everything is packed up on Sunday afternoon though, I"ll be heading up to Warwickshire College to met up with the rest of the New English Workshop team - N.E.W. - where Jamie Ward, the furniture making departments course leader, will be hosting a very special event. N.E.W. have brought Chris Schwarz over from Kentucky to run, what some have described as, the woodworking equivalent of the modern pentathlon. Sawing, planning, dovetailing - around 100 in total, mortise & tennoning and rebating all by hand over five days. It"ll be intense and perhaps even emotional for some as the two groups of 18 students cross the finishing line and walk away with either a full-size Anarchists Tool Chest or the smaller Dutch Chest and some fantastic memories of the event to boot. F&C has a man on the ground covering the event, so look out for Rob Stoakley"s write-up in a few issues time.
Whatever the weekend has in store for you I hope the sun shines on you, especially if you"re in Brighton or Warwickshire.
