Hello workers of the wood universe...

Dear workers of the wood universe, my name"s Vanessa and I"m the new deputy here at F&C, stepping into the elegant shoes of Andrea Hargreaves. I"m delighted to be here and to know you all. Please forgive my tardieness in writing my first blog but, coming from a fashion background, I"ve been busy as a bee, getting my head around the subject of woodcraft. Knowing very little about the more technical side of furniture and cabinetmaking initially, I"ve been rather thrown in the deep end but am beginning to find my feet.
I think. I"ve discovered, I must admit to my surprise, a world of artists and visionaries. Highlights for me so far have been going to visit Marc Fish at Robson House Studio, subbing any copy by David Savage, who I hope to meeting at some point and discovering Wharton Esherick and Wendell Castle. I"ve been inspired by looking at historic techniques such as verre églomisé along with antique pieces of furniture that have really given me a sense of pride and wonder in my new work.
The best thing I"ve done, however, has to be going up to Bucks New University and meeting the dynamic and enthusiastic makers of the future. I hope very much these students, and indeed everyone, will come and find me in our various cyber portholes – here, on the book of face (facebook.com/woodworkersinstitute) and Twitter (twitter.com/woodworkers) – and begin to engage more with a magazine that seeks to be a guide and inspiration for the men and women of this very special craft.
I"d love to hear from you with any comments, suggestions or feedback and if you have any recommendations for my furniture education, please let me know.
