So many carvers often ignore the fact that a gouge has two (2) positions:  the unique bend of the gouge cutting a concave curve trench in the material AND turned upside down making a convex curve or astragal.  Easily accomplished with an inside bevel on gouges as well as flat chisels.
We are merely gleaners of all that we have seen.
