Tracy Owen turns salt and pepper mills

1.Two pieces of well-seasoned elm each measuring 180mm long x 70mm square (7 x 2 3/4in)
This month's project is a matching pair of salt and pepper mills. I chose well-seasoned elm (Ulmus sp) for this, and both pieces were cut from the same plank. I used a good quality mechanism by Cole and Mason which should give trouble-free use.
The shape I made the mills is a copy of a pair I made for my family last Christmas. I decided to make the mills more of a contemporary shape, rather than the traditional one normally used. I think this shape works really well as they fit well into the hands. Alternatively there are endless different shapes that could be used. These mills have been great to make simply because we get so much pleasure out of their daily use.
