Following its best fundraising year ever, the Sheffield Woodturning Club has given a total of £3,710 to Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.
The outgoing Chairman, Walt Claxton, had asked the members to make his last year in office really special, and they certainly did that, almost doubling the amounts raised for charity in previous years. It was originally thought that the total would be just £3,000, but extra money came through at the last minute. £510 of the total was contributed by Anne Cameron who was sponsored to run her first ever 10K, and thanks must go to Steve Wright, who donated wood for turning.
Members of the Club which continues to thrive, with over 80 active members, turned items to sell at every opportunity and little by little the money came in.
For fans of the Club's work the SWC will again be at Art in the Gardens on the first weekend in September, and the Annual Show and Christmas Fair will be on Sunday 18 November. In the meantime there are two full-day demonstrations by world class turners Nick Arnull and Les Thorne. Details can be found on the club website.
