Extraction phase two

Hello Everyone
Having got over the Easter rush the pace here in the GMC workshop has slowed a little, but only a little. Something I alluded to in an earlier blog but can now finally reveal is the new extraction system we have in place! Previously, machines were extracted piecemeal, one extractor per machine. Not very efficient at all, but now we have a proper integrated system linked to all the static machines making it safer and easier to work thanks to Fercell Ltd whose business is extraction. We hit a problem earlier on because like a lot of smaller workshops we have a single phase supply and we needed three phase. Thankfully on site we have Mike Bartter and his team of electrical and mechanical engineers who fitted an inverter, and a fully digital one at that. It was so high-tech that there was initially some confusion programming it, mixing up ‘cycles’ and rpm! Interestingly though, because it is so sophisticated it doesn’t appear to draw down the supply each time it starts up the twin bag extractor. Now if we can only stop swapping machines on test, I won’t have to keep refitting hoses everywhere…
Now the magazine is running how I would like it to, thanks to my ‘posse’ who keep the magazine wheels turning, I can spend quite a bit of time in the workshop getting it better organised and making and testing for Woodworking Plans and Projects – and then tomorrow at the weekend I can carry on sorting out and refitting my own workshop. Just can’t leave this woody stuff alone!
Till next time, Anthony.
