Teaching and demonstrations

Excellent, that’s January out the way, which means I’m only a couple of months away from the start of my 2017 teaching and demo schedule. The day job and other commitments mean that for the time being these will be largely focussed at short sharp weekend courses in the South East.

Some of the tools I most enjoy using are either made in small numbers by artisan craftsmen around the world, or by me in my workshop in Newhaven, East Sussex, which is where you can join me on 4-5 March, to make a traditional marking/pencil gauge.

I have a number of gauges in my everyday tool kit; some fancy and extremely accurate for generating baselines for dovetailing or shoulder lines for joinery and some for less critical early stage marking out. This gauge is one of the latter and the one I use most. With the exception of a pillar drill there are no power tools or machines used on this course; it’s hand tools all the way and a most agreeable way to spend a weekend.

Here’s a list of the scheduled dates so far. I’ll be adding some more so do keep an eye on the blog for updates or drop me a line at derekj@thegmcgroup.com for more info.
