This is my second attempt at carving ,but he first go at letters. Not quite up to the standard of many of the carvers on here but i will keep practicing.
It is made for one of the great granddaughters, left unfinished so as they can paint or just varnish to suit themselves. Made from unknown wood but I think it could be mahogany. C & C most welcome as I want to learn from mistakes early

Hi Dalboy! You have made a great work! I have tried to carve mahogany and it's hard wood to carve!
Well done! |

Hi Dalboy,
It looks very good, and I like Mickey. I've never tried letter carving, but if I could do it as well as you I'd be very happy. Cheers, George |

Thank you both for the encouraging comments. Still alot more practice needed which is my excuse for doing things like this , I am starting to feel comfortable using the chisels .

Dear Douglas
If this is only your second attempt at carving then I would say that you are going to be very good at it. Letters have good depth and are neat and crisp, Mickey looks great as well. It’s so nice that you have left it for your great granddaughter to finish as we should all do what we can to encourage the young to get involved in whatever way they can. Kind Regards Robin

Thank you Robin and it is Derek. I followed Chris Pye carving technique in his book "Letter Carving in Wood" which I found very useful
